Regional Arts Australia

Regional Assembly

The assembly is designed to build artistic communities across geographic distances when living and working remotely is coupled with a desire to nurture and develop international connections. In addition to the three co-design artists, seven mid career artists who live in regional Australia, South Pacific and South Asia will be selected through an open EOI process.

The Program

Regional Arts Australia’s guiding principle is that place is central to creative practice and provides profound practical and emotional links between the economies and synergies of artistic and cultural practice. Themes around place-based adaptive approaches and local knowledge, growing stronger connections and dialogue about creative practice from *here* have been discussed in the various planning conversations.

As we all move more into online spaces the assembly will consider the 'internet space’ as a means for locating-practices. Peer-to-peer support is vital as we continue to navigate recovery from Covid-19, and what were once considered alternate delivery models are now accepted practice. Harnessing the digital space allows RAA to demonstrate best practice, embracing a more sustained, grounded and technologically adept way of working nationally and internationally with a radically lower carbon footprint.

This nationally significant project presents the opportunity to connect professionally with peers from a wide range of arts practices. RAA is committed to broadening our regional horizon across the Asia-Pacific region.

We are looking to support one artist from each state and territory, plus practitioners from NZ, South Pacific and South Asia. The cohort will be made up of artists, writers and makers from a wide diversity of fields, working at the crossroads of philosophy, art, and activism.

Artists will be contracted for a one year program.
