The Office of Multicultural Affairs administers an incentive scheme to support the shared use of multicultural community facilities. It provides for owners and managers of multicultural community facilities to share their premises with other multicultural community groups. This scheme is funded under the Multicultural Community Facilities Grant. Participation in the sharing arrangement is voluntary.
The following examples of use provide a guide to the type of activities that can be considered when negotiating a sharing arrangement scheme:
• Use of an existing multicultural community hall for celebrations and events, such as cultural celebrations, rehearsals, dance performances, language classes. Usage would depend on the frequency of the event or activity.
• Use of meeting rooms (a number of times for the year, depending on activities).
• Use of storage space or sporting facility for example football field, if available.
• Final arrangements are to be worked out between the parties, in the Schedule attached to an agreement.
Funding under sharing arrangement supports upgrades, repairs and maintenance as well as venue hire fees. Funding cannot be used to buy furniture i.e. chairs and tables etc.
