Taking the pulse of cabaret

Co-Artistic Director of the 2016 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Eddie Perfect, reflects on the art form’s health and what the festival is doing to foster the next generation.

Recent years have seen rapid growth in the cabaret sector, with dedicated festivals supporting the art form now flourishing in most Australian capital cities. But the godmother of them all is the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, which this year is helmed by co-Artistic Directors Ali McGregor and Eddie Perfect.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management. Richard is a life member of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, and was awarded the status of Melbourne Fringe Living Legend in 2017.
