Inspired by 1930s jazz-struck Shanghai, Shanghai Mimi is a glamorous club, an extraordinary woman, an exquisite performance, set to a score of intoxicating songs 時代曲 from the Paris of the east.
The Shànghǎi MiMi Band featuring Sophie Koh brings to life the story of 1930s Shanghai – a zenith of talent and opportunity; with a creative culture bursting with energy and dynamism. Shanghai became a magnet for foreign musicians, many of whom found work in famous jazz venues on The Bund 外滩 performing alongside Chinese singers and musicians.
As the decade drew to a close, foreign musicians drifted away, leaving behind the memory of a golden period in Shanghai’s cultural history.
