Talking Writing is a regular Writing NSW event, designed to explore the limits of what writing is and where it can take you. This event will focus on Queer authors and their writing influences.

Join us on Thursday 18 August from 6pm for an evening of readings and discussion with Queer writers and artists living in Sydney. From 6pm, join us for drinks, nibbles, and a chance to meet other writers. The panel will take place from 6:30-8pm.

The LGBTQIA+ community has been a major influence on arts, culture, and the Australian literary scene for decades, with contemporary queer writers thriving and more visible than ever before. Talking Writing: QueerWriters on Queer Writers celebrates a new generation of writers from Sydney’s LGBTQIA+ community, by paying homage to the influential queer writers who came before them.

Writing NSW invites a panel of Queer Australians to discuss their favourite writers and creative influences, the stories that shaped their identity and practice, as well as to share from their own bodies of work.

Curated and chaired by queer writer Amy Lovat (she/her), the event features award-winning writer George Haddad (he/him), musician and debut author Bastian Fox Phelan (they/them), and writer and artist Fiona Kelly McGregor (she/they).

Writing NSW members can attend Talking Writing for free and bring along a plus one. The event is $10 for non-members.
