Internationally acclaimed artist Sean Lynch’s captures Melbourne’s rich history through a series of iconic and meaningful artefacts in his new immersive installation at University Square, Carlton.

The artwork speaks to the power of objects to revive memories and understandings of place, combining historical street furniture, elm logs that grew in the square, plantings, a decommissioned public artwork from the City of Melbourne Art and Heritage Collection and a replica of the facade of the demolished Corkman Hotel.

Sean Lynch’s ‘Distant Things Appear Suddenly Near’ was commissioned by the City of Melbourne and will be at University Square until mid-2023 joining Mikala Dwyer’s night-time digital projection ‘Apparition’.
