In 2021, The Archibald Prize celebrated the 100th year of Australia’s oldest and most loved portraiture prize and they are delighted to be hosting the Prize in Taree in 2022!
Prestigious and controversial, the Archibald Prize was first awarded in 1921 following a bequest from former Art Gallery trustee JF Archibald to foster portraiture, support artists and perpetuate the memory of great Australians. The trustees of the Art Gallery judge the entries and the winner receives AUD100,000, courtesy of ANZ.
The open competition has been awarded annually to the best portrait, ‘preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in arts, letters, science or politics, painted by any artist resident in Australasia’.
Visit the exhibition to vote for your favourite portrait in the ANZ People’s Choice award before voting closes on 21 August 2022.
For families, there are also children’s labels, a children’s art trail and an activity sheet with ideas for creating your own portraits at home.
All ages exhibition.
