Audiences of all ages will enjoy creating new holiday memories with friends and family when they explore the latest exhibition at Powerhouse Castle Hill.

The Holidays exhibition captures the universal appeal of leaving everyday routines to relax and highlights significant social changes that encouraged generations of Australians to enjoy leisure activities like sports and travel. Over 100 Powerhouse Collection objects are displayed, illustrating the evolution of leisure from the 1900s to more recent history. The popular resurgence of pastimes like board games, picnics and bushwalks during Covid-19 lockdowns is also reflected in the exhibition.

Powerhouse Collection highlights include a selection of wax fruit created for the museum in the 1890s, an 18-piece Victorian Wickerwork picnic basket set, a 19-piece miniature croquet game, a tricycle horse from 1875, sunglasses designed by Stella McCartney for Chloé, a Nintendo ‘Game Boy’ handset, an Eastman Kodak No. 3 Brownie Model B box camera, and a Scenic Railway Katoomba booklet from the 1930s.
