Renowned for creating some of the most recognisable images of our time, Hiroshi Sugimoto’s major survey opens at the MCA on 2 August, after critically acclaimed presentations at the Hayward Gallery, London and UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing.

The largest exhibition of the artist’s work to date, Time Machine, chronicles five decades of Sugimoto’s practice and features key works from all his major photographic series, highlighting his philosophical yet playful inquiry into our understanding of time and memory, and photography’s ability to both document and invent.

The exhibition is accompanied by an ongoing, immersive program of related activities including the ‘Family Space: Light Lab’ creative activation for families, artist sessions, curatorial talks, workshops, school holidays activities, screenings and events for all ages.

Organised by the Hayward Gallery, London in association with the MCA and supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, presents a rare opportunity for Australian audiences to encounter the meticulously crafted, deeply thought-provoking work of the internationally celebrated artist.
