Discover the Arts in the Heart of the South West – 23 March -7 April 2024

The Blackwood River Arts Trail (BRAT) is the must-see art event in the South West around Easter each year. It offers an exciting range of experiences for visitors to enjoy from 23 March to 7 April in the Blackwood River region that includes Nannup, Bridgetown-Greenbushes, Donnybrook-Balingup, and Boyup Brook.

BRAT presents artists opening their home studios for an intriguing glimpse into their processes and creative environments as well as exhibitions held in a range of venues such as cafes, gardens, gift shops, small galleries and collective spaces.

Many of the venues are within or close to town centres, allowing visitors to wander the character-filled streets of these beautiful regional towns and villages. There are  also studios further afield that offer the opportunity to discover the scenic areas surrounding charming country roads that wind their way through rural and bush landscapes

A range of art forms can be found on the trail, including sculpture, painting, ceramics, textile and wearable art, mosaics, weaving, felting, illustration and photography. There is also the opportunity to participate in a variety of interesting creative workshops offered by artists on the trail.

An additional initiative that supports another branch of the Arts is the Blackwood River Film Festival which shows films by Australian filmmakers on the first (Bridgetown) and third (Nannup) weekends of the trail. Catch feature films and a selection of short films that are sure to broaden the appreciation of home-grown talent.

All details about the Blackwood River Arts Trail and the Blackwood River Film Festival will be available from 1 March 2024 in the trail guide, available from Jacksons Drawing Supplies & featuring a lift-out map, and at blackwoodriverartstrail.com as well as low-cost tickets to film sessions at just $10.

Other attractions in this beautiful region include walking, horse, and world-class cycling trails, great food and wine from boutique growers, and many unusual and intriguing shops staffed by friendly locals.

The Blackwood River Arts Trail creates a great excuse for a weekend or mid-week getaway where you will discover what makes it the beating heart of the South West, a region of hidden gems, great people, and experiences that will make a holiday to remember.
