The creative industries tertiary institute offers programs in Contemporary Music Performance, Audio Engineering, Film and Television Production, Entertainment Business Management, 3D Animation and Game Design.

In a unique integrated approach, students from each strand are encouraged to collaborate with each other on assessable practical projects. This open arrangement between departments lets JMC Academy students network with each other in a way that mimics real world practices. Professional creative procedure can be learnt and mastered at an introductory level, giving students a head start in the industry.

By engaging with students from different creative strands, a range of technologies and skills can be applied to a single work. This can lead to the creation of whole professional products.

Students of the Contemporary Music and Performance strand are able to record in the studio and have their work mixed, mastered and promoted. They can see their compositions enhanced visually in videos, short films, games and animations.

Audio Engineering and Sound Production students can record, overdub and mix a soundtrack for film, miniseries, games, animations or live performances. They can record and master an album and help promoters assess and select venues for a performance.

Entertainment Business Management students are given the opportunity to schedule, manage and promote musicians, as well as market games, films and animations. They can develop networking skills and can scout for producers with high-quality products.

Film and Television Production students can integrate sound in their films, documentaries and web series. Real footage for simulated game environments can be captured for them and and special effects and CGI can be included in their work.

Game Designers can collaborate with film students and animators to make hybrid products. Sound can be commissioned for their games and their final product can be promoted for them.

3D Animators can likewise create hybrid products with special effects. They can collaborate with sound designers and even launch their work professionally.

Strong examples of JMC Academy integrated practice include the student music video clip and television commercial projects, and preparation and participation in the annual student awards showcase night.

Opportunities also extend beyond the institute, with students from JMC Academy’s Film and Television, and Audio Engineering departments filming a number of showcases for music publisher TheMusic.com.au and record label Warner Music.

By working with a cross-discipline focus, JMC Academy students are able to gain insight into real industry practices, establish creative partnerships and work with professional products. This allows graduates to hit the ground running with tested collaborative skills and the beginnings of a creative industries network.

Applications are currently open for 2014 course enrolment at JMC Academy, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
