Recovery begins at Glasgow School of Art

A special bursary scheme for students affected by the fire has been established as offers of support for the GSA roll in globally.

Fears that the Glasgow School of Art’s (GSA) world famous, architecturally significant Mackintosh Building had been irreparably damaged have eased somewhat following last week’s fire.

On Sunday, the GSA confirmed the extent of damage to the building. Though the 1897-99 part of the building, which houses the Director’s Office and Studio, the Mackintosh Museum, Mackintosh Room, Board Room and Furniture Gallery, and the GSA Archives remain intact, the 1907-09 section of the building (the west wing) was significantly damaged, with both the library and studio lost to the blaze.
