A study entitled Van Gogh to Lady Gaga: Artist eccentricity increases perceived artistic skill and art appreciation has been published by the European Journal of Psychology.

The study by psychologists Wijnand Van Tilburg and Eric Igou sought to determine whether audiences reacted differently to art works when they knew the artist was eccentric.
