Artists clamour for teaching jobs

Becoming an art teacher is an appealing option for artists but jobs are not easy to find.

There is a 14 year waiting list for high school art teaching positions in NSW. In fact the over supply is so great that the University of Sydney no longer trains secondary arts teachers.

Robyn Gibson, Associate Professor of Visual and Creative Arts Education at the University of Sydney, told ArtsHub many teacher come from a fine arts background, and are looking for job security.
