$14M artwork commissioned by the National Gallery

National Gallery announces major commission of sculpture by artist Lindy Lee to mark 40th anniversary.

The National Gallery of Australia has announced that it is commissioning artist Lindy Lee to create a significant, immersive public sculpture to mark the institution’s 40th anniversary.

Titled Ouroboros, it is Lee’s largest outdoor work to date, and reflects public artworks similarly presented outside the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, with their mirrored polished stainless steel surface, which is perforated to allow light to animate the form.
