Open Studios was created to help demystify art for art lovers who normally have a gallery or on-line sales process between them and the creator of contemporary work that interests them.
Top artists from the beautiful Daylesford Macedon Ranges tourism -and arty- region are selected by an eminent independent curatorial panel and inviting the public into their studios.
The invitation is to see artists, many with international and national reputations at work, and to chat to them about why they do what they do. You may recognise their names or their work, and like to know more, now is your chance to experience another level of intimacy into their creative processes. Some artists will have demonstrations to watch, some just working away as usual and all love a chance to chat about their passion.
Twenty five artists from the region, regarded as one of Australia's regional art capitals, are taking part in this year's sixth annual open studios programme on the last two weekends of April and the first weekend of May, the artists are-
Marian Alexopoulos, Liz Archer, Helen Cottle, Adam Cusack, Lawrence Finn, Steph Goss, Larissa Gray, Kim Haughie, Jeannine Hendy, Angie Izard, Emma Jimson, Tim Jones, Amanda Marburg, Dianne Longley, Greg Mallyon, Deborah Mullins, Kathryn Portelli, William Ritchie, Chris Rowe, Anne Saunders, Doug Wright, Anthony Vanderzweep, Sam Varian, Rose Wilson, Ellie Young
Open Studios has become a major annual arts scene event.
This is partly because it is a rare chance to meet artists in their working studios.
And it is partly because the region is beautifully scenic, offers top food, wine and weekend accommodation, and is so easy to reach from Melbourne.
