The Parramatta Artists Studios (PAS) will open its doors to the public for its annual industry open day to support and mentor aspiring artists.
‘Movers and Makers’ is being held from 10am to 7pm on Saturday 19 May and will include a full day of practical talks from industry-leading artists and writers to help artists create their next career opportunity.
“This popular event is a must for those wishing to further, or establish, a career in the arts. It’s a great opportunity to network, learn from other artists, and receive practical advice on career development,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.
“The Parramatta Artists Studios is a wonderful success story for arts and culture in our City, providing vital space for the best contemporary artists to create their works, which are exhibited across Australia and the world. I encourage everyone interested in art to come along and explore the studios and meet the artists currently in residence.”
Artists will have access to Australia’s leading arts organisations in One Plus One, a program for artists to speak directly to representatives from contemporary art spaces including: ACE Open, Adelaide; Blacktown Arts; and The Lock Up, Newcastle.
They can also sit in on a pitch session from organisations with upcoming opportunities including: Asialink residencies; the William Fletcher Foundation Rome residency; and exhibition call outs at Cold Cuts Gallery and Verge Gallery.
Guest speakers in the series of free talks include: artists Denis Beaubois, Erin Coates and Sarah Goffman; and industry professionals Coby Edgar (Art Gallery of NSW), Tristan Chant (Copyright Agency), Penelope Benton (National Association of Visual Arts) and Andrew Frost (The Guardian).
Throughout the day visitors can meet the 2018 Parramatta Artists Studios artists and see works in progress in their studios. They will also see newly commissioned works by
Tom Blake, Rebecca Gallo and Lisa Sammut and a performance by Emily Parsons-Lord.
