After a brilliant debut in 2017, The Darlinghurst Business Partnership is proud to announce that their special DoDarlo Mardi Gras event, OXTRAVAGANZA is back!
Saturday 24th February on Oxford St is all about celebrating the Pink Mile and everything it has to offer. There will be exclusive performances, live music, food & drink, an SSM wedding market, a mobile outdoor disco, donated YES! Kegs from Young Henrys and much, much more, with proceeds raised going to local community group Twenty10 +GLCS.
Launched in 2017, the DBP’s special event for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, Oxtravaganza, is back for 2018 – bigger and better than ever! With more events, more businesses involved and some very special happenings, the 2018 Oxtravaganza is sure to be a jewel the festival’s crown for the Mardi Gras’ 40th anninversary.
In addition to all the events and specials being put on by local retailers, this year, Oxtravaganza will be celebrating, in particular, the history-making YES vote that made same-sex marriage legal in Australia in December 2017. In partnership with Young Henrys the DBP has arranged their own version of the Karma Keg for Oxtravaganza, called the YES! KEG. These kegs will be available at participating bars, pubs and restaurants who will have a fully donated keg of Young Henrys Cloudy Cider or Newtowner serving $5 schooners on 24th February with all proceeds going to Twenty10+GLCS.
To further celebrate marriage equality, Oxtravaganza is hosting a very special outdoor wedding market with local vendors, businesses and artisans coming together to showcase their services and wares to help the betrothed plan the most beautiful and perfect weddings. From jewellers, to florists, bakers, celebrants and more, the Oxtravaganza Wedding Market will have something for everybody’s special day along with a sublime soundtrack provided by Ricardo’s Mobile Disco.
Each year Oxtravaganza supports a different local charity, for 2018 the DBP are thrilled to announce that funds raised on the day via the YES! KEGS, two on-street BBQs and individual business’ fund-raising efforts, will be donated to Twenty10+GLCS NSW, who proudly provide LGBTIQA+ social support, counselling, housing, mental health in Sydney for young people, those most in need of compassion and care.
Sydney’s Oxford Street has historically been a stomping ground for queers, oddballs, bohemians, and artists, whose influences delightfully combine to form a unique cultural hub - an unconventional and non-judgmental space where anything goes and everyone is welcome. Oxtravaganza celebrates the rich and diverse community of the Pink Mile boasting a slew of one-day-only events, deals and specials, including, but most certainly not limited to, free make-up applications, classes with Darlo Drama, expert Shibari performances, live music, marquee stalls sprinkled up and down the strip, to highlight the unique and vibrant character of this iconic piece of Sydney.
The OXTRAVAGANZA program is growing and expanding constantly, with new events added daily. The full program can be viewed evolving online at www.dodarlo.com.
