May Brings a Comedy Festival, Music and an Award-winning Film to the Sutherland Entertainment Centre

Sutherland Entertainment Centre will host the 2018 Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase, the musical maestro, Danny Elliott and the Oscar award-winning film the Shape of Water in May.  

The 2018 Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase on May 24 promises to have the funniest comedians from this year’s Sydney Comedy Festival. Expertly curated and lovingly presented the showcase will feature some of the hottest acts from this year’s Festival for 2 hours of hard hitting laughter.

Comedians include CAM KNIGHT whose fast one-liners and masterful audience interactions have made him one of the most in-demand comics in Australia; JAMES SMITH who is one of only 4 Australian comics to appear on the Conan show; GARETH WAUGH, a fast rising star in the Scottish comedy scene, whose quirky, surrealist style is earning him fans the world over; JULIA WILSON , a lovable local legend, Julia Wilson is bringing her considerable energy and rapid fire enthusiastic punchlines;  AARON CHEN whose unique style has seen him grabbing awards in comedy rooms and on TV and radio and JOE SHAFFER  the Texas born, Melbourne based comic known for his signature upbeat style and hilarious wit.

On May 28 Danny Elliot a versatile multi-instrumentalist and vocalist will captivate his audience with his outstanding vocal and musical abilities. He will include ‘Scotland The Brave’, ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ and ‘I Am Australian’.  Accompanying him will be Grace Rizzo, vocalistRoss Maio, piano accordionist and Joseph Raso, tenor.

Grace Rizzo will sing ‘A Sound of Music’ medley, an ‘Edith Piaff’ medley and ‘Where The Boys Are’,  Ross Maio will play a medley of ‘Strauss Waltzes’, ‘The Cardinal of Venice’ and ‘La Camparsita’ and Joseph Razo will sing  ‘Granada’, ‘Nessun Dorma’ and ‘Time To Say Goodbye’.

On May 30 The Shape of Water will screen. This film won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Score and Best Production Design as this year’s Academy Awards. From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER - an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa's life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.
