Thanks to Transit Lounge, be in to win a copy of ATLANTIC BLACK, the critically acclaimed second novel from A.S. Patrić, winner of the 2016 Miles Franklin Award.
Atlantic Black (Transit Lounge $29.95) is a haunting novel set on an ocean liner crossing the Atlantic to Europe. A seventeen-year-old girl called Katerina Klova is travelling with her mother. The story begins with the collapse of Katerina's mother, a complete psychotic breakdown, leaving Katerina alone for the first time in her life.
Atlantic Black subtly explores the legacy of violence, of how the First World War precipitated the Second World War, and with this narrative lens we can understand the ongoing nature of violence now. Through the perceptive intelligence of Katerina Klova, and her own family's place within a fracturing world, we see the way trauma is passed from one generation to another.
Author A. S. Patrić is a bookseller and teacher of creative writing. He is the author of two short story collections, Las Vegas for Vegans and The Rattler & other stories, and a novella called Bruno Kramzer. His debut novel Black Rock White City was published to critical acclaim in 2015 and won the Miles Franklin Award in 2016. A new collection of stories The Butcherbird Stories will be out in 2018.
