Here’s a promise to thrill a gift recipient. We’ll move you is the offer of West Australian Ballet’s 2015 season for its diverse palette of classical and contemporary work.

For Artistic Director Aurélien Scannella presenting a broad-reaching program is important. He explains: ‘Not everyone likes classical ballet and not everyone likes contemporary so we really have to offer both styles for our audience … and this diversity of repertoire is very important for our dancers to keep their artistry and motivation alive.’

The year begins with four contemporary works performed under the stars in Ballet at the Quarry. Two are by acclaimed choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. One is the Australian premiere of Zip Zap Zoom, an electrifying piece, which will lead the audience into another dimension through projections and text. Ochoa’s second work La Pluie (the rain) is accompanied by the music of J. S. Bach.

Perth audiences will be introduced to the work of William Forsythe in Steptext a challenging piece for a ballerina and three male dancers, while the final performance Hold the Fourth takes a George Orwell quote as its starting point.

George Balanchine is a seminal figure in American ballet and Embraceable You – A Celebration of Balanchine showcases his unique transformation of the classical ballet technique. The bill includes Who Cares featuring the music of George Gershwin.

The year finishes with two major classical ballet productions that need little introduction: Coppélia the romantic story about a very life-like doll and Cinderella the classic fairytale set to delight newcomers and aficionados alike.

To experience the diverse world of ballet, there is a range of subscription packages to choose from and gift vouchers are available. Subscriptions are recommended for those who would like to see more than one ballet throughout the year as the discounts are up to half price.

In addition to the economical benefits, subscribers are given priority seats, flexibility of dates and personalised service. They are also kept up to date with the company with regular email newsletters and the biannual magazine.
