Reviving successful pre-election lobbying

Anyone who doubts the capacity of arts lobbying to make a difference should take a look at Western Australia.

In the lead-up to the 2013 WA State election, Country Arts WA mounted Vote Arts, a campaign calling on all political parties to make a commitment to the ongoing success and development of Regional Arts in WA when shaping their policy determination.

The campaign bore fruit last year when the state’s Liberal Government committed $24 million to regional arts organisations, venues and touring programs, in marked contrast to the cuts experienced by the arts under other Liberal governments around the country and, particularly, federally.
