The Federal Government is expected to move to a new model for regulating cultural material entering and leaving Australia following the release yesterday of the final report into the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act 1986.

The review was prompted in part by the internal scandal over illegally exported Indian antiquities, which forced the National Gallery of Australia to return a $5 million sculpture of Shiva.
