Centuries before psychological theorists had coined phrases such as ‘collective subconscious’ and ‘super-ego’, William Shakespeare was exploring the darkest recesses of the human mind in works which still resonate today – even though modern audiences might sometimes struggle a little with his language.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management.
