In the biggest overhaul of arts funding in Western Australia in decades, 35 new and emerging arts organisations have received a share in more than $29 million to create, develop and deliver activities in visual arts, dance, music and theatre.

This year saw the Organisational Investment Program (OIP) introduce a new recurrent funding model, with recipients to receive funding for a minimum of three years, creating a stable foundation for arts organisations.

Among the recipients include lead organisations such as PICA and Country Arts WA, as well as award-winning Aboriginal performing arts organisation, Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and Artrage, which delivers the annual Fringe Festival.

The funding model overhaul has enabled six arts organisations to secure funding for the first time, including contemporary dance company Co3, Lost and Found Opera, Marrugeku Inc, Perth Centre for Photography, SymbioticA and theatre company The Last Great Hunt.

‘Over the next three years, I am confident that all the funded organisations will make a significant contribution to the State’s cultural landscape and provide quality arts experiences for artists and audiences alike,’ said Culture and the Arts Minister John Day.

A smaller pool of funding has been allocated to literary arts, with Writing WA, the Literature Centre and the Royal Historical Society of WA not receiving funding through OIP; however they will receive transitional funding and have the potential of more assistance through the State Library and WA Museum.
