Since opening in January 2011, David Walsh’s privately owned contemporary art gallery has become a major draw card for Tasmania, but its popularity is a two edged-sword.

‘I’m a huge fan of MONA and what they’ve done, and what they continue to achieve, but there is no doubt that there are people who are going to some parts of the state – largely Hobart – and not seeing the rest of the state as a result of MONA,’ the Director of Launceston’s Queen Victoria Museum and Arts Gallery (QVMAG), Richard Mulvaney, told ArtsHub.
