Time to register for Sydney Fringe.
The Sydney Fringe recently launched its 2012 Artist and Event Registration at Venue 505 with entertainment from some Fringe Club favourites on hand. Hundreds of artists gathered to be the first to put their names down for this year’s festival and to enjoy the ambiance of the night while Geoff Bull’s New Orleans Four and 2011 “So You Think You Can Busk winners”, The Rusty Spring Syncopators provided the entertainment. Fringe staff were also available to provide the lowdown on how to put a show into the festival. Festival Director Richard Hull also launched Springboard - the new mentoring and support program that will assist an emerging Sydney artist, group or company get their original work staged at the 2012 festival. A record number of artists have now registered online for Sydney Fringe 2012, with more than 100 separate artists and events jumping onboard in week one alone since registrations opened. There have also been more than 30 venues sign up with more coming online every week. Participants this year will be in the running for the new Best of Sydney Fringe in Edinburgh initiative, giving a few selected shows fast-track access into the world’s largest arts festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. An exclusive partnership with ‘the National Theatre of the Fringe Assembly’ has created this exciting opportunity. Five shows from Sydney Fringe 2011 are expected to take part in the inaugural season in August. Registrations are currently open online at and remain open until May 11th.
