Why we need quotas in the arts

There is increasing pressure for quotas for women, culturally diverse and disabled actors and creatives to improve diversity on our stages and screens.

As a mirror to society, the arts have a particular responsibility to reflect the diversity of gender, ethnicity and ability in the broader community.

But, as is increasingly recognised, most producers and presenters still have a disproportionate menu of white, able-bodied males.
