About Us

Midsumma Festival celebrates queer culture in Melbourne with a wide range of performing arts, visual arts, live music events, as well as community and sporting activities. Offering a diverse, exciting and relevant program, the festival continues to attract a broad and ever evolving audience to Melbourne and Victoria. Each year over 120,000 individuals visit from all over Australia and internationally to participate in and attend Midsumma Festival events.

The festival opens with Carnival on 15 January, a day-long celebration in the City of Melbourne's Birrarung Marr, providing access to everyone: both queer and mainstream communities are welcome to picnic with family and friends as well as engage with community groups, enjoy the free entertainment and browse the commercial stallholders. The festivities continue into the night with T Dance - one of Melbourne's largest outdoor dance parties - featuring some of Melbourne and Australia's most popular DJs.

The 24th Midsumma festival will run from Sunday 15 January to Sunday 5 February, 2012.
