Artlink provides a platform for accessible, communicative, often crtiical, sometime political, writing on topics of currency to Australian art and society. It was established in 1981 as a bi-monthly magazine with the aim of providing a national profile for South Australian art and linking contemporary art organisations in Adelaide. Artlink has evolved since those early days to position Australian art within a national and international context through its themed editions and reviews of exhibitions and programs across all states and territories and more selectively in the Asia-Pacific.
Since 1990, Artlink has published regular editions of Artlink Indigenous, commissioned by Australian Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander writers, curators and artists.
In 2014, Stephanie Britton retired from the position of Executive Editor after publishing 145 issues in 33 years. Eve Sullivan was appointed Executive Editor in July 2014.
