USQ has a well-established reputation in the Arts at the University of Southern Queensland, entertaining the local and wider communities for close to forty years. Annually, 20 000 people enjoy our Artsworx which encompass theatre productions, music recitals and art exhibitions.
Originally named Performance, this centre incorporated The Arts Theatre Co, Studio 9, The Acme Sausage Company Children’s Theatre, The Darling Downs Youth Theatre, The Phoenix Singers and the Toowoomba Symphony Orchestra.
In 1987, came another name change to the USQ Performance Centre as Arts at USQ continued to evolve. The Centre presented brimming seasons of music, theatre and exhibitions showcasing student, community and visiting artists.
In late 2007 the name changed again to USQ Artsworx. Under the leadership of Rebecca Scollen, Artsworx manages and produces the annual visual and performing arts season, including USQ McGregor School, Shakespeare in the Park Festival and USQ Big Band.
Now, with close to 20 000 people annually attending Artsworx events, the future is looking bright for Arts at USQ.
