ABOUT URBAN THEATRE PROJECTS
For more than 35 years, Urban Theatre Projects (UTP) has consistently delivered a program that has put cultural diversity and under-represented voices front and centre. During this time, UTP has created more than 95 new Australian works, based on a process of dialogue between contemporary theatre practice and diverse communities predominantly living in Western Sydney.
UTP remains at the forefront of ground-breaking new processes, creating seminal works that earned the company a Sidney Myer Award in recognition of the company’s outstanding contribution to theatre. More recently, UTP has won FBi SMAC Awards two years running for BANKSTOWN:LIVE and The Tribe.
UTP Awards include SBS TV Acquisition BRE & BACK (Documentary) (2017), FBi SMAC Award Best on Stage The Tribe (2016), ABC TV Acquisition One Day For Peace (Documentary) (2016), ZEST Awards One Day For Peace (2016), ZEST Awards BANKSTOWN:LIVE (2016), FBi SMAC Award BANKSTOWN:LIVE (2015), ZEST Awards Out of the Box, BANKSTOWN:LIVE (2014), Sydney Theatre Awards Best Independent Production The Fence (2010) and Sidney Myer Award for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Theatre (2002).
