About Us

Willoughby City Council provides a range of facilities and programs which support the ongoing development and promotion of performing and visual arts across the region. These include three professional art spaces, the Willoughby Visual Arts Biennial, affordable studio spaces and grants for creative projects.

Visual Arts

The Art Space on The Concourse, Chatswood displays high quality art, craft and cultural exhibitions, including up to three Council curated exhibitions per year. Art Space on The Concourse is available for hire by artists, community groups and cultural organisations to present exhibitions. For bookings or further information contact 9777 7814.

The Incinerator Art Space is located on the lower level of the Willoughby Incinerator, below the café. It is a professional art space showcasing contemporary visual arts. Incinerator Art Space presents Council curated exhibitions and is also for hire by artists, art groups and independent curators to present exhibitions. Bookings and information contact 9777 7972.

The Foyer Exhibition Space is located below Council Chambers and hosts a wide range of exhibitions about Willoughby, by Willoughby residents, or on topics of interest to the local community. The program is curated by Council and also offers free exhibition space to artists that meet the selection criteria. For information contact 9777 7814.

The Artist Studio facilities for artists who live in Willoughby are available for hire at the Northbridge Library. For information contact 9777 7972.

Willoughby City Council’s Public Art Program Council has commissioned a range of public art pieces located across the City, including a sculpture by renowned artist Richard Goodwin, located on the lift shaft of the refurbished Walter Burley Griffin Incinerator; Ripple, a black granite work by Hew Chee Fong and L M Noonan, located in Chatswood Mall; and Visiting Enki, by Wendy Mills, located in the Reflection Pool on The Concourse. Performing Arts

The Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and Choir (WSOC), led by internationally renowned Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Dr Nicholas Milton AM, produce concerts and performances of a world-class standard. For bookings phone 8075 8111 or visit

Our multicultural community has several significant days, festivals and celebrations that Council promotes and provides activities for and are enjoyed by residents and visitors to Willoughby.

Willoughby's largest festival is the annual Spring Festival which takes place every September and features the ever popular Willoughby StreetFair. Other annual events include Australia Day, Chinese New Year and Harmony Day.
