Gallerysmith celebrates, exhibits and sells examples of the very best contemporary art by a select group of artists from Australia and the South East Asian region.
The gallery was launched by director Marita Smith in 2008 with a stable of just seven artists but quickly gained a reputation for identifying and developing exceptional emerging talent. Since that time, the list of artists has been carefully cultivated, and Gallerysmith is proud to represent highly esteemed artists with international reputations such as Dadang Christanto, Christopher Pease, Martin King and Catherine Nelson, important established senior and mid-career artists including Lynda Draper, Ian Friend and Andrew Seward, while successfully forging the careers of younger practitioners Kirstin Berg, Eric Bridgeman and Mike Chavez among others.
In addition to the three spacious galleries downstairs which present rolling solo exhibitions, Gallerysmith launched an additional project gallery upstairs in 2014 where it exhibits more experimental work, largely by unrepresented artists. Gallerysmith Project Space website is gsprojectspace.com
The Gallerysmith building is also home to a number of studios which provides space for seven established visual artists across a variety of disciplines, a commercial photographer and a small independent theatre company.
