Opera Australia is Australia's national opera company, dedicated to enriching Australia's cultural life with exceptional opera and sustaining and developing the art form, with over 600 opera performance a year. The Company works with leading directors and designers, and employs a large number of highly skilled people in the areas of scenic construction and painting, wardrobe and wig-making, stage production, management and administration.
We're looking for an experienced and hands-on Senior Publicist to join our Public Relations Department on a full-time, fixed term basis. The Senior Publicist will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the major seasonal campaigns, drafting communications plans, media releases and alerts, as well as ensuring calendar listings and backgrounders are up to date with the support of the publicist and interns. The role will also manage media contact lists, our online media centre, media coverage compilation, invitation lists and distribution, and assisting with event management of media events. The role will work across all company projects including Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, main-stage opera seasons in Sydney and Melbourne, and regional touring.
The position requires a minimum of 5 years' experience in publicity and events management, preferably within the arts sector. Our ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong diplomatic skills in working with various stakeholders and external bodies, high level of computer literacy, experience using Adobe Photoshop or similar, strong attention to detail, experience working in high pressure environments, and the flexibility to work varied hours and travel interstate. This is the perfect role for someone keen to further their career in Arts/Entertainment PR.
This is a full-time fixed-term position for an initial period of 1 year, with view to extend to permanency. Salary is commensurate with experience.
