Company Secretary

International ballerina, educator and cultural entrepreneur Tanya Pearson OAM founded the Sydney City Ballet in 1971. It was a natural and much-needed extension to her classical ballet academy and to the needs of hundreds of young, emerging ballet artists.

Based in Sydney, the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy is recognised nationally and overseas as one of Australia's leading ballet education institutions for over 40 years. The Academy has been responsible for the careers of scores of nationally and internationally acclaimed ballet stars and for the development of next generation audiences and lovers of ballet throughout the country.

Both the Academy and the Sydney City Ballet have a rich and impressive legacy. In the last 5 years Tanya Pearson OAM while remaining the Founding Director has instigated a succession plan for the future. Under the executive leadership of Nicole Sharp and the artistic direction of Lucinda Dunn OAM, the Academy has entered a new phase of its evolution and has embarked on the reinvigoration of the Sydney City Ballet to meet the artistic and theatrical aspirations of the 21st Century and the global ballet world.

SCB is seeking a dynamic and energised Company Secretary who can work closely with the Chair and the Board to re-build and equip the new SCB with diligent and rigorous governance: policies, practices and monitoring from the application of director skills and responsibilities to the establishment of working sub-committees to ESTABLISH AND drive the organisation forward.

The successful applicant will be a highly engaged, committed professional with a can do approach and the ability to get things done. The reinvigoration phase will include embracing the new Vision and Mission, reincorporating the organisation and establishing a new board.

This position is voluntary and reports to the Chair of the Board. The position is required for 10-14 hours per month. This will include attending a Board meeting each month for up to 2 hours, plus a minimum of 1 hour per week working during office hours (which can be done remotely) and the remainder is flexible and can be carried out outside of office hours.

The role of Company Secretary requires:

- Governance expertise, compliance and experience working on/with Boards;
- excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels;
- excellent attention to detail and a well-organised approach to work;
- a diplomatic approach and the confidence to provide support, guidance and advice to Directors;
- open, direct and effective people management and interpersonal skills;
- enthusiasm, flexibility and drive;
- Emotional maturity
