No interns allowed at new artist development program

A group of writers, directors, actors and dramaturgs have been selected for a new program that ensures pathways are still open for career development.

The pathways which once helped theatre-makers find their way to a career in the theatre are under threat, according to Belvoir. That’s why the company has launched a new initiative designed to assist emerging artists and the independent sector.

Running for the next 12 months, the inaugural Belvoir Artist Workshop brings together 14 artists and provides them with space to work and a community of kindred artists to brainstorm with.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management.
