Negotiation tactics are specific methods used by a person or group to gain an advantage or reach a beneficial outcome. So how can we use such strategies in the workplace, and are negotiation tactics suitable to use in an arts environment?

‘Whether we realise it or not every day we are negotiating our way in, through and around workplaces!’ said Tjala Arts former Manager Sara Twigg-Patterson. ‘Negotiation is associated with change and there are many of us who do not like change, resist change or feel threatened by change. Negotiation requires respecting and validating other people’s opinions and ideas. Acknowledging the other parties’ concerns, ideas, requests and then developing approaches that address these mandates.’
