About Us


The Regional Institute of Performing Arts (RIPA) has built a reputation as an innovative centre for performing arts training. Students are involved in training that is based on the techniques of leading creative practitioners. The training is practical, experiential and project-based and provides students with many opportunities to put their skills into practice.

Our focus is on delivering the knowledge, skills and techniques that support employment goals. The training develops and refines natural abilities so students graduate as highly skilled, business-minded creative practitioners. The versatility of the skills and depth of knowledge that is gained through the training means that graduates are better positioned to work to industry standards and respond professionally to opportunities. Our independent and mentored approach increases  employment options in performing arts, media, live production and newly allied industries such as health, community and aged care.

Vocational training nurtures the potential for employment and wealth creation through the development of creative products and services. 

Courses 2015:

DIPLOMA OF ARTS ACTING - 11811
The Diploma is the first phase in the creative process where we support the student - the creative artist – to develop into a creative practitioner. In this course you begin to acquire the knowledge and skills to use as actors, writers and directors in the performing arts industry. The training starts to develop the mindset and skill-base that enables you to grow your versatility and confidently respond to creative, employment opportunities On completion, you can move into the Advanced Diploma in Arts (Acting), where the skills are applied in more complex and challenging work, and you are introduced to the broader performing arts industry.

12 months - 3 days per week

ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF ARTS ACTING - 11807
The Advanced Diploma is the second phase in consolidating the knowledge and skills from the Diploma into very challenging classwork and productions. The high level of work required mirrors the expectations of a very competitive industry. Students are encouraged to create their own work, while exploring performance opportunities and taking on directing challenges. Our goal is for you to graduate as an emerging creative practitioner, with many starting points: being able to source an agent, apply for arts funding, submit new work for a festival, and/or audition for touring companies, amongst other employment opportunities.

12 months - 3 days per week

DIPLOMA OF DANCE (ELITE PERFORMANCE) 14051
If you love to dance and want to make it your career, and you want to become an independent performer and/or choreographer, this course is for you.

Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) has a strong focus on employment and creating sustainable careers in creative dance practice. Use your dance skills to take the lead, stand out in the crowd, increase your profile and get the work.

The course is also designed to provide students with the business and presentation skills to work as a freelance artists and apply for work in live  performance, film and television work, musicals, cabarets, arts festivals, corporate events, resorts, casinos, cruise ships, theme parks, children’s entertainment, community work and arts health.

12 months - 3 days per week

There is also a Dual Qualification on offer: 14051 Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) and 14059 Diploma of Musical Theatre. Delivered over 12 months - 4 days per week.

DIPLOMA OF MUSICAL THEATRE 14059
If you love to sing and dance and you want to make ‘musical theatre’ your career, then this course is for you.

Diploma of Musical Theatre has a strong focus on developing skills that enable you to become strong and confident ‘triple threats’ (singer/dancer/ actors) and compete for those amazing roles. Learn how to use your performance skills to take the lead, stand out in the crowd, increase your profile and get the work.

It is also designed to provide students with the business skills and knowledge to work as freelance artists as well as ensemble members of stage productions, with the option of applying for work in performance, film and television work, musicals, cabarets, arts festivals, corporate events, resorts, casinos, cruise ships, theme parks, children’s entertainment, community work and arts health.

12 months - 3 days per week

There is also a Dual Qualification on offer: 14051 Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) and 14059 Diploma of Musical Theatre. Delivered over 12 months - 4 days per week.

DIPLOMA OF LIVE PRODUCTION AND TECHNICAL SERVICES 14063
Do you enjoy working and managing backstage operations in the performing arts and entertainment industries? Then, this course is for you.

In response to the growing demand for specialist skills in back-stage production and venue services and management, the Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services offers an opportunity for you to refine your skills and develop your interest at a specialist level. In our delivery of the course there is the flexibility for students to select their area of specialisation: audio, lighting, costume, stage managemetn, production management or events

Students are expected to apply their skills to a range of project briefs and to display initiative and judgment in planning, delivering and managing the final production and/or event.
