GENERATE - WORKING IN FIRST NATIONS CULTURAL CONTEXTS

Footscray Community Arts Centre

About the Course

Sovereignty, cultural competency and racial literacy
A chance to assess, deepen or develop our understanding of sovereignty, cultural competency and racial literacy. Are you currently working with First Nations peoples or hope to in the future? Are you interested in increasing your capacity to work respectfully with people from differing cultural backgrounds to your own? This workshop is designed to build capacity and effectiveness of non-Indigenous arts and cultural workers to better support sovereignty and self-determined outcomes in First Nations arts, culture and community engaged practice. Facilitated by Genevieve Grieves, this three-day workshop explores racial literacy, understanding whiteness, cultural competency and effective ways of working in First Nations contexts. This workshop is a chance to explore your own identity and professional practice, whilst connecting with Elders and Koorie community arts practitioners as they share with you first-hand knowledge and experience.
