Leggings Are Not Pants takes a controversial stand: there are no boundaries to gender identity, but there are to lycra. It provokes debate on hot topics: are leggings really pants? Is soy milk making women gay? Has the pole phenomenon increased levels of female testosterone? Do lesbians like holding hands and tofu?

A pole show with a twist on the sexy, this is for anyone who wants to explore an inner dancer. Full of laughter, sweat, acrobatics, beauty, rocking live music and muscles, this hilarious show irreverently explodes some myths about women and same sex preferences.

The show draws you into a quirky warehouse world – semi-converted to a pole studio to save on rent - revealing
closet addictions, secret lovers and share house rules in a delightful parody of myths about being gay. In the midst of a fugue state sweeping over straight women, turning them gay, the housemates make their own world that revels in contradictions about pants and gender while they confront their sexual identities.

Leggings Are Not Pants cleverly subverts the rules society makes about leggings to bring the lycra-clad dancers in us all out of the closet, and celebrate our choices. Revealing quaint glimpses of desire and lust, the show defies the divide between masculine and feminine, and argues maybe female same sex attraction is actually about.. sexual attraction. So don your leggings - under your pants - and come and see circus gold!

Sara Pheasant is the writer and director of last year's fabulous and side-splittingly funny Ladies Prefer Brunettes and recipient of the 2010 Melbourne Fringe Innovation in Circus Award. Sara also directed No Such Thing as Normal, winner of the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Best Original Circus Award. Leggings Are Not Pants is presented by the Women's Circus, performed by Circus Gold and features music by the Camel Toes.
