This is Liane’s first year as a Festival Champion.
She took the time to tell ArtsHub a few thoughts about architecture.
What inspired you to undertake a career in architecture?
My father was an architect and my husband is an architect, and I have grown up surrounded by architect friends. I love their creativity and approach to the world. A lovely mix of art, design, practicality and imagination.
What's your background – what stud/experience was involved to get to where you are?
I studied at art school – CoFA - specializing in drawing and painting. A Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Professional Art Studies. I then co-founded design company Dinosaur Designs and was a designer and director for 25 years. Since then, I have been working on lots of different art and design projects, including as Creative Director for the Art Month Art Adventure earlier this year.
Can you describe an "average" working day for you?
At the moment I am working on the Happy Talk project for Art and About in Hyde Park. It is lovely to go to work in the park and create things with different people every day and share techniques and stories. Otherwise I am working on the Supercyclers project, making lots of new pieces and designing works for exhibition. I’m also working on other works for a variety of exhibitions, and spending time meeting with lovely collaborators for existing and future projects.
What is the best thing about your job?
Possibility, creativity, freedom and working with lovely people.
What’s your favourite period of architecture? What’s your favourite building?
I love ‘50s and ‘60s architecture and all the Case Study houses, and am a huge Eames fan. I love Richard Neutra and Oscar Neimeyer.
