Carl Kapp’s first job as a patternmaker instilled an invaluable understanding of how important an excellent cut is as well as the technique involved in garment construction and finish, which has become an integral part to the Carl Kapp brand 15 years later.
Since graduating in Clothing Design from the Natal Technikon in Durban in 1990, Kapp has gone on to gain experience working on major project for Kenzo and Donna Karan International, Designroom in Milan and Trent Nathan in Sydney.
Each new collection betrays an obsession with luxurious fabrics, ensuring that every garment is soft and tactile and drawing the customer to notice the precision cut and detailing.
In the Autumn/Winter of 2006, the label CARL was launched in Australia. After 4 seasons it was re-branded as CARL KAPP, soon seducing a loyal following of customers who appreciated the simplicity and quiet confidence of each garment.
Since then celebrities like Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Rose Byrne and Rachael Taylor have been drawn to the brand and created increased demand, leading to opening of the Online Store in August 2008. The flagship Carl Kapp store opened in Paddington, Sydney at the end of 2009.
