Photography Night Walks

Night walks around Melbourne have never been so intrepid, especially when armed with digital SLRs.

A new program headed by working photographer Jess Edgar hosts a series of photographic explorations, each week heading to different locations in and around Melbourne. The nightwalks aim to inspire and build a creative network for photography enthusiasts of all levels and experience, as well as seeking out secluded and often unknown sites in the city.

Previous nightwalks with photographic results have been held in Melbourne’s inner suburbs, from the ghostly Abbotsford Convent to the architectural artistry of Carlton's bustling strips. Also featured have been Channel 31 filming sets and a tour of Gothic architecture around the city. The sessions so far have produced vibrant visual results.

These events are held every Thursday and Sunday from 6.30pm - 8.30pm at different locations in the Melbourne CBD. Thursday photography sessions will be followed by the screening of that night’s works immediately after at Loop from 9.00pm, where photographers can indulge in a glass of wine or warm beverage.

The photography night walks Facebook community boasts past works from the walk, and advertises upcoming locations for exploration.

At a cost $15, your camera is all the necessary equipment.
