MEDIA RELEASE COURTESY OF: PENGUIN PLAYS ROUGH AND MONTHLY FRIEND
Penguin Plays Rough is a monthly Sydney event where five programmed writers read their stories, four wild cards get up and read whatever they've written, and everyone generally basks in the glory of beer and love and stumbles home at some ridiculous hour.
Monthly Friend is an (almost) monthly Sydney event that provides a platform for young and emerging artists – generally working in sound, video, installation or performance, to show their works and works-in-progress.
This month, with the explosive marriage of Penguin Plays Rough and Monthly Friend, the multi-talented writer-performers will be spinning wonderous, seedy and dynamic tales inspired by one set of images of a cheap motel room. This January Monthly Friend is joining forces with Penguin Plays Rough to bring you Working Title.
Monthly Friend has previously popped up at Serial Space, Bill and George, Red Rattler and PACT theatre and this time will be co-curated by Luke Tipene. Working Title is a slide and story night featuring the likes of Malcolm Whittaker, Alice Williams, Annaliese Constable and Hossein Ghaemi presented in the comfort of a very large sitting room at 1/475 King St.
Working Title signals a new direction for Monthly Friend, being the first time that the Bake Sale For Art group has worked with an external curator (Luke Tipene) and a co-producer (Penguin Plays Rough).
