Oddernity is the debut LP from Melbourne’s The Bon Scotts.
No strangers to the local scene, the band has finally put their eccentric mish-mash of washed out vocals, jangling guitars, found-sounds and twee keyboards down on tape. The press release says it’s an album about love in a time of conspicuous consumption, expectation and recovery, centred round the lives of the image conscious youth, the crazy God lovers, the bloated middle and the forgotten yet eccentric elderly.
We’re not exactly sure what any of that means, but we do reckon this Robert Zimmerman-fronted (yes, seriously, we think…), Damien Sutton-produced band have made a disc filled with twists, turns, quirks and quandaries – more than just a good fun listen.
So far The Bon Scotts have drawn comparisons to The Flaming Lips, Architecture in Helsinki and Arcade Fire – big wraps indeed, but not too far off the money.
