2010 IMAGinE Awards celebrate NSW & ACT museums

Celebrating and acknowledging excellence and innovation, these awards offer a great guide to some of State’s best institutions and collections for the public.

Museums & Galleries NSW, Museums Australia (NSW), Regional Public Galleries of NSW and Museums Australia (ACT) have announced the launch of this year’s IMAGinE Awards.

Established in 2008 the IMAGinE Awards celebrate the achievements and extraordinary diversity of the NSW and ACT museum and gallery sector and those who work within it, both paid and volunteer staff. This year’s Awards night will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney on Friday, 22 October 2010.

Michael Huxley, Acting CEO, Museums & Galleries NSW, explains that, “In addition to acknowledging the significant contribution that individuals make to their communities through museums and galleries across NSW and the ACT, the IMAGinE Awards help promote the value and importance of museums and galleries and their collections to the public”.

“With the sector comprising of over 650 organisations and approximately 5000 paid and volunteer workers, these galleries and museums also provide a major contributions to their local communities, economies and cultural life as well as playing an important role in tourism across urban and regional NSW and the ACT.”

“With so much diversity across NSW and ACT, the Awards shine a spotlight by showcasing a sector full of creativity, inspiration, education and understanding.”

With nominations closing on September 6th, Mr Huxley has challenged the sector to achieve a record number of nominations this year.

“The IMAGinE Awards not only acknowledge, celebrate and promote excellence across the sector, they also forge important networks and links between the paid and volunteer staff within museums and galleries,” continued Huxley. “And for the public, October 22 will provide a terrific guide to museums, galleries and their collections to be explored and enjoyed,” continued Mr Huxley.
