James Morrison new QMF Artistic Director

The Queensland Music Festival has confirmed the appointment of jazz musician James Morrison as Artistic Director for the 2013 and 2015 festivals.

The Board made the announcement this week, with QMF Chair Kate Farrar saying they were ecstatic about his appointment.

“Not only is James an international star performer, he is also an inspiring and highly experienced music educator who will champion the community development aspects so important to the Festival,” Ms Farrar said.

James Morrison describes his appointment as an extremely exciting new chapter in his life.

“Having spent many years performing all over Queensland, I have an appreciation for the breadth of music this State has to offer,” Mr Morrison said.

“I'm very much looking forward to working with the QMF team to continue and expand the spectacular work for which this Festival is renowned.”

The Queensland Music Festival is a biennial festival of the best local, national and international artists and aims to celebrate the experience that music brings to everyday lives.

Every style of music is on display to Queenslanders during the festival, in Brisbane and in remote centres from Thursday Island to the Gold Coast.

QMF’s most recent event in 2011 was made up of 202 events in Brisbane, 24 regional events and drew record attendance of 178,000 people.
