Australian Theatre Forum 2011

Theatre makers and arts workers from around Australia will convene for the second Australian Theatre Forum, to take place in Brisbane this September.

Companies both large and small, independent and commercial and in festivals and venues will gather with cultural leaders and contemporary thinkers to pick out some of the issues that surround the practice of theatre.

Infrastructure and sustainability will be just the tip of the iceberg of the number of different issues affecting theatre workers that will be analysed over the three day forum.

Delegates will exchange knowledge and experience and attempt to build a viable future for the theatre industry.

The first Australian Theatre Forum took place in May 2009 in Melbourne. At that time, 300 theatre professionals from around Australia met for what, at the time, was the first official conference for the entire theatre community in 25 years.

In 2011, theatre workers have a chance to review the success of the ideas and changes implemented at the conference two years ago and use that information create a discourse and, if needed, a new path for the sector.

Fiona Winning will be curating the 2011 event alongside Associate Curator Diat Alferink and the event has received support from the Australia Council; Arts Queensland; Brisbane City Council; the Brisbane Powerhouse; Brisbane Festival; Theatre Network Victoria and Metro Arts.

The forum will take place at the Brisbane Powerhouse from September 14-16.
