It sounds like a crazy idea by someone with too much time on their hands - bring together two dozen of the world’s finest thinkers on creativity and innovation, and stick them in one of Melbourne’s most beautiful new buildings for three days. Give them twenty minutes up on stage each, no slides, no cards, no nothing, and see what they come up with. Oh, and finish off each day with performances from some of Australia’s most innovative and talented performers. How does September sound?
Creative Innovation 2010 is just that - a crazed collaboration between creative services company Creative Universe, social enterprise Creativity Australia and an impressive list of sponsors including some of the biggest names in Australian business. Running over three fantastic days in September, the conference promises to be an unique melting pot of ideas on social inclusion, health care, climate change, business and sustainability, among others. And following each day of high-flying thought and discussion, a public concert in Melbourne’s brand new Recital Centre.
Creativity Australia’s groundbreaking Melbourne Sings choir is one of the most inclusive performance groups around. Whether you’ve just arrived in Australia, or run a major company, Melbourne Sings welcomes you into its arms with an ‘engagement through music’ policy that makes it an invaluable social and support network for its members. Featuring performers from all walks of life and a wide range of cultural backgrounds, Melbourne Sings’ performance on September 8th is sure to be as inspiring as it is enjoyable!
Creative Innovation 2010 isn’t all talk - it also has a composer-in-residence, Stefan Cassomenos, one of Australia’s finest up-and-coming young composers and performers. September 9th, he takes to the stage with a group of some of Australia’s most talented performers to premiere a brand new orchestral work written especially for the event! If his work with The Yarra Trio and the Australian National Academy of Music is anything to go by, this is sure to be one of the most exciting and freshest new works of the year.
Finally, to cap off the festivities, veteran Australian performers Pot-Pourri will bring their innovative blend of opera, musical theatre, comedy and just plain fun to the Recital Centre. Even after 22 years, Pot-Pourri still entertain and entice audiences, never taking themselves or their art form too seriously. After more than 40 international tours and a host of Australian and international award, they are sure to end the three days with a bang!
Tickets for both Creative Innovation 2010 and the three public concerts are available here. For more information about the concerts, click here.
